Design Specification

Functions and purposes:
  -The garment will be designed for girls between the ages 13 and 19
  -The garment will be stylish and fitted for a special occasion event
  -The garment will be inspired by the Japanese culture
  -It will make girls feel feminine and feel that others will notice their distinctive style

Aesthetics:
  -The garment will illustrate Japanese pattern and culture
  -The garment will be in bright colours
  -The garment will be a party dress which will be suitable for parities
  -It must be appealing to the target market

Target market and consumer requirements:
  -The product is aimed at females, age 13 to 19
  -It is required to be a stylish to suit the teenager’s fashion
  -It must be reasonable priced for the target market

Time and Resources:
  -Resources used to make the product must be of quality
  -Resources must not be too expensive as it has to be an affordable product for teenagers
  -Resources must be simple to assemble; otherwise it may be a struggle to keep all deadlines
  -Deaedlines for designing and making the product must be kept, use of a Gantt chart advisably

Health and safety issues:
  -The people making the product will be supervised by a trained member of staff, and they, themselves be trained if using machinery
  -There must not be dangerous hazards on the garment, like sharp buttons  or edges
  -Since small parts may be used in the garment, it is not advised to keep it where a child a reach

Value issues:
  -This garment must be suitable for a special occasion event, so it should semi-formal and formal
  -It will be made to suite most occasions so that consumers can get their use out of the product
  -Resources will not be wasted, if unused. They will be able to be recycled

Life expectancy:
  -This product will be made from suitable materials that can be easily cared for
  -Since fashion trends change every year, the garment will remain fashionable for up to a year
  -The consumer will get full use of this garment

Scale of production:
  - The production method is classroom production
  -The first product made will not be a prototype, suitable for mass production

Performance requirements:
  -The garment must be colourful, and appealing to the target market
  -It must be comfortable to wear
  - be easy to care for
